About us
Adopt 2008 is a campaign by Olympic Watch, a non-governmental organization set up in 2001 to help keep the Chinese government accountable for the pledges of human rights improvements that Chinese officials made when bidding for the Olympics. While encouraging Olympians to participate in the Olympic Games, it invites them to express their support to the Olympic values of human dignity, respect for the individual and fair play by adopting brave Chinese citizens whose human rights have been violated by the Chinese government.
Throughout this site, we gratefully use information gathered by leading human rights researchers from Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Human Rights in China (HRIC), the Committee to Protect Journalists, Chinese Human Rights Defenders and the Congressional-Executive Commission on China. (Efforts have been made to credit all information as well as possible.) Olympic Watch and this campaign, however, are not associated with any of these organizations and institutions, any government, the International Olympic Committee or any national Olympic committee.
